Isola del Giglio is an Italian municipality in the province of Grosseto in Tuscany.
From Giglio Castello you can reach this path by taking the panoramic road by car, scooter or bike, leaving Piazza Gloriosa in a southerly direction (6.3 km, 15 minutes).
At the end of the road begins the path that leads to the southernmost point of the island, Punta del Capel Rosso.
Path 28a gradually descends into the typical Mediterranean scrub up to the Capel Rosso lighthouse of the same name.
From there the stairs lead down to the sea where you can swim. The path is very sunny and there are no shaded areas (except on the cliffs). It takes its name from the island of the same name in the Tuscan archipelago and also includes Giannutri, located a few kilometers to the south-east.
The Capel Rosso lighthouse is a maritime lighthouse on the Tyrrhenian Sea which is located at the southern end of the island of Giglio, in the municipal area of the same name, on the peak promontory of Capel Rosso.
Electrically powered and with a rotating optic, the light is produced by a 1000 W halogen lamp, with four white flashes every 30 seconds with a range of 23 nautical miles.
The lighthouse, whose inauguration dates back to 1883, was built by the Navy, at the time called the Regia Marina, for the illumination of the southern part of the island, given the inadequacy of the pre-existing Vaccarecce lighthouse, the oldest on Giglio, which until then it was the only facility on the island.
The infrastructure consists of an octagonal-section tower in white masonry, which rises in front of the central part of the front facade (oriented towards the sea) of a building with a rectangular plan, arranged on two levels, which is characterized by the white masonry and red and which in the past housed the guardians' homes before its definitive automation. The tower-shaped structure, with an internal gallery, culminates with a terrace overlooking the sea which forms the base of the dome of the gray metal lantern.

The island of Giglio is connected by ferry from Porto Santo Stefano, a town in Argentario in the province of Grosseto, easily reachable both by car and by train or plane. By car: boarding for the island from Porto S. Stefano is can be reached from the SS1 Aurelia.
From the North: approximately 34 km from Grosseto, at Albinia detour to Porto S. Stefano, approximately 15 km.
From the South: approximately 140 km from Rome, at Orbetello detour to Porto S. Stefano, approximately 15 km.
In Porto S. Stefano there are guarded car parks where you can leave your car during the holiday period, something to take into consideration if you intend to visit other interesting places.
During peak periods it may be difficult to ferry without a reservation. It is advisable to purchase the ticket or book in advance to avoid not finding space for your car on the ferry.
By train or bus: Pisa – Rome line, stop at Orbetello-Monte Argentario station, then bus of the TIEMME bus company from the train station directly for boarding at P. S. Stefano.
N.B.: From 06:00 to 22:10 there are approximately 20 trips from the Orbetello Scalo railway station to Porto S. Stefano. In 25 minutes you will be boarding.
By Plane: The island is not very far from the Galilei airport in Pisa and the Leonardo da Vinci airport in Rome.
By ferry: To reach the island from Porto S. Stefano, two shipping companies Maregiglio and Toremar are available.
