The Costa Smeralda is a coastal stretch of Gallura in the north-east of Sardinia. The expression indicates the only stretch of the coast of Arzachena, in the province of Sassari, affected by the project of the eponymous Costa Smeralda Consortium, which extends from the area of Pitrizza, located just north of Porto Cervo, to the beginning of the territory municipal of Olbia, at the Rena Bianca beach.
The Costa Smeralda, despite being a well-defined stretch of coast, is mistakenly confused with the entire north-eastern coast of Sardinia, although in reality it occupies just over fifty kilometers. Even the nearby villages of Poltu Quatu, Baja Sardinia, Cannigione and Porto Rotondo are sometimes associated with it, but these, although located near the famous coastal stretch, are not part of it.
